If you get anything, get a MiniDV camcorder, not an 8mm or VHS-C camera. Their resolution sucks. Also, if you're playing it back on a TV, the MiniDV video will look great. It's also easy to import the video to a computer since it's digital and there is a firewire connection. Keep in mind that it won't look as good on a computer since you'll need to deinterlace it (unless you like the venetian blind look) and that'll strip away about half of your vertical resolution. If you want your videos to look sharp on the PC, you'll need a camera that can shoot in true progressive scan mode.
